Second convocation of Metropolitan University is held successfully on Saturday morning at Sylhet Sports Complex premise to confer the degree upon 1382 students passed out their honours in 2014.
The programme is presided by the Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on behalf of the President of Bangladesh and the Chancellor of the University Md. Abdul Hamid.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Robindra researcher Professor Dr. Tapadhir Bhattacharjee was the chief guest in the programme.
During the convocation ceremony, 938 male and 444 female students were conferred degree certificate and among them 6 most meritorious students awarded the Chancellor Gold Medal for their best performance in study. Those awarded students were Smita Ray, Ajmira Jannath, Dilruba Yasmeen, Mohammad Ali Hasan, Sajida Aktar Chowdhury Shimu and Mohammad Abu Bokar.
The chief guest in the programme, Topadhir Bhattacharjee aiming to those graduates said “There is no end of possible initiatives in natural resourceful Bangladesh. The researchers of agro-science should extend their one hand to Biology and another hand toward Geography, Chemistry or toward Environmental Science. The young generation of Bangladesh has to take initiative to make self-dependent.”
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid in his presidential speech said “Our young generation has to stand as the main architect to build a digital Bangladesh. The government is dedicated to ensure a qualified modern and adequate education by upgrading the country’s education system.”
In the program, Vice-Chancellor of Metropolitan University Dr. Md. Saleh Uddin in his inaugural speech said “The University started its journey only with 17 students and 7 teachers in the year 2003 but now the University is providing education to 2600 students with having 74 regular and 17 honorary teachers. The most glorious matter of this University is that a team of meritorious students of this University is carrying out fame by developing Science and Technology including Electronic Voting Machine and Unmanned Submarine.
